Motion Sensors

Motion Sensors

Notion sensors have revolutionized the way that we think about home security. Now you can be alerted as soon as someone enters a particular space. Not everyone knows enough about how this home security technology works. When it comes to selecting the best locations for your motion sensors, many of us are lost. Ask yourself: Is my home security flawed because of my motion sensor placement?

Good Motion Sensor Placement

These spots are the best for ensuring you’ve got an effective home security system. Think about where someone would expect a motion sensor to be.

Be Creative!

Motion sensors can be placed almost anywhere, so be creative! Use the decorations in your home to make your motion sensor placement less obvious. Be careful not to block the motion sensor when you’re trying to find creative places to put them. Since expensive items are a high priority for thieves, place your motion sensor near large and expensive items that cannot be hidden.

Ceiling Motion Sensors

Motions sensors work at any angle, so consider putting one on the ceiling! Most people simply won’t think to look up, even if they are specifically looking for security technology. Remember that ceiling fans can trigger the sensor and keep your motion sensor’s view clear of any obstructions.

Corner Motion Sensors

Corners are great spots to place your home security technology because you get coverage on all of the access points of the room. A corner motion sensor that is free from obstruction is very effective at picking up any activity in the room in which it’s placed. Try placing your sensor up high so it’s more difficult to notice.

Basement Motion Sensors

If your home has a basement that is accessible from the outside, then the basement could be an easy target for burglars to enter your home. Protect this area of your home with motion sensors and one of the easiest places to break in becomes one of the most difficult.

Patio Motion Sensors

Outdoor patios often have sliding glass doors which are easy to open, even from the outside. Keep your motion sensor dry by wrapping it saran wrap and remember that motion sensors detect side-to-side motion better than directly head-on.

Bad Motion Sensor Placement

There are certain spots that due to the nature of this home security tech, aren’t great places for motion sensors. Many motion sensors work by noticing changes in temperature – understanding this concept is key. Avoid placing your motion sensors anywhere around sources of heat. Windows are typically not the idea spot because of the constant change in light and temperature.
